Take on Board breakfast recap, March 2015

Thanks to everyone who came along to the March Take on Board breakfast, and thanks in particularly to our fabulous speakers Anthea Green and Monique Conheady.

I'm standing at the front of guests at the March 2015 Take on Board breakfast. I'm standing in front of a whiteboard with butcher paper and a full shelf of wind (which we didn;t drink of course since it was breakfast-time!).

Key messages

  • Use your contacts. You don’t need 300 of them, just five that matter.
  • Develop a one page resume.
  • It could take 6-12 months to find the right role for you, maybe more. Be patient.
  • Assess your appetite for risk and do your due diligence on any organisation you are considering joining as a non-executive director (NED).
  • A common  but not the only  pathway is to join a a not-for-profit board, then a government board and then a commercial board.
  • Don’t be the chair as your first NED role!
