My favourite networking framework for a simple introduction

It’s your least favourite part of networking events, right? You clam up – how can you explain what you do in a simple, interesting way?

Let me show you how.

Three women at a Take on Board breakfast table smile and laugh at an unseen woman on the other side of the table.

My favourite framework for introductions is:

  • I help… (who do you help)
  • Do… (what do they do)
  • So they can… (get what results)

For me, as a connector, it might be:

I help women

Connect to their networks

So they can open doors to opportunities

See? It doesn’t have to be too complex. In fact, the simpler the better.

Another example, if you work in communications for the environment:

I help [our project teams]

To [write their communications plans]

So they can [have greater engagement from the public which leads to greater impact for the environment]

Or another:

I help [our organisation]

To [develop budgets and stay on track]

So they can [get even more funding to educate our children in schools]

And one of my favourites, from a hospital cleaner:

I help [keep our patients safe and happy]

By [ensuring their rooms and bathrooms are clean and free from germs]

So they can [recover quickly and go home sooner]

I spoke at a conference about this recently, and one of the attendees came rushing up to me afterwards saying ‘thank you so much! I have been feeling flat about my work and uninspired. This reminded me that what I do is important!’

So, what do you do? I’d love you to get in touch and introduce yourself! Or let me know how it goes when you use this introduction.
